Ovation Fertility has announced plans to conduct a retrospective study, which will assess how well artificial intelligence (AI) can identify embryos that lead to a successful pregnancy. The company is partnering with Life Whisperer, an AI company based in Australia, to conduct the trial.
Life Whisperer recently conducted a study where they found AI performed significantly better than embryologists at identifying viable embryos from medical images. Looking at a cohort of nearly 600 cycles, Life Whisperer’s AI technology performed over 30% more accurately than experienced embryologists in identifying embryo viability.
While the use of AI for infertility treatment is experimental, there has been promising research to date.
Ovation’s trial will review de-identified photos of day 5, 6, and 7 embryos using the AI technology. The analysis will correlate Life Whisperer’s analysis of each embryo image with its known pregnancy outcome.
